In a democracy, all individuals are expected to participate in public life as voters and informed citizens. Many take their involvement to the next step by speaking out and becoming advocates on the important issues in their lives. But can the skills and processes of civic engagement also be learned? The answer is yes.
The Pennsylvania Center for Women, Politics, and Public Policy offers a variety of trainings to help further engage citizens in public life. Those interested in the art and science of campaigning can join the Center for The Winning Edge, a non-partisan, boot camp for potential candidates and campaigners. For individuals looking to strengthen their voices and learn to work with public officials, the Center offers Ready to be Heard: Advocacy Training. College women are encouraged to read about the Center’s summer institute in leadership and public affairs, NEW Leadership Pennsylvania.
The Center also hosts numerous speakers, workshops, and forums throughout the year. The public is always welcome to join us. To hear about upcoming opportunities, check our calendar regularly or add your name to the email list via the Contact page.
