The women of southwestern Pennsylvania are ready to be heard! Not just as voices of concern, but as skilled, articulate, spokeswomen for themselves and their status in the region.

The new administration brings new opportunties and challanges.  When you attend Ready to be Heard Advocacy Training, you gain skills needed to seize your opportunities and challenges with government on behalf of your community, organization or small business.   If women from all sectors of society were trained to identify, articulate, and advocate for themselves as well as other women, girls, and the region could we be our own voice for change? The answer is yes.

We believe that women can become the best activists for their own needs by acquiring the needed skills to be effective advocates in the halls of government. We work to cultivate critical lobbying skills through an “advocacy boot camp” so that women from all walks of life, and sectors of business and nonprofits, can define the agenda and press for its implementation in local, county and state government.

In 2006, the Center hosted two successful “Ready to be Heard: Advocacy Training for Women” programs attended by nearly 140 women from five of the eleven counties in SWPA. Results were immediate: participants published op-eds and letters to the editor in local papers, launched petition drives, and became the trainers of other advocates in their organizations and networks.
