The Pennsylvania Center for Women, Politics, and Public Policy was established in 1998 through the generosity of the Hillman Foundation, Inc. and the Maurice Falk Medical Foundation. It was then reconceived and endowed in 2003, by the Hillman Foundation. The Center is the first to focus specifically on women's political involvement in Pennsylvania and seeks to increase the level of women's political participation through education, public service, and research. The Center provides research and policy analysis of issues affecting and affected by women, and offer experiential learning opportunities that provide women of all ages with the information and skills needed to be politically active and civically engaged.
The Center provides programs for the community as well as Chatham students and faculty. These programs educate on contemporary policy issues, promote political awareness, develop leadership skills for college and community women, encourage the development of networks, link curricular and co-curricular activities for students, and foster the application of knowledge to politics and policy. For students we also facilitate the connections between study, experience, and careers in public life. Center programs and focus include:
